The Risks of Neglected Residential Sump Pumps in New Boston MI

Heavy rain can put your basement at risk, especially when your sump pump is worn out, undersized, or not working as it should. Advanced Plumbing of Monroe provides residential sump pump solutions in New Boston, Michigan, including installation, repairs, inspections, and maintenance. Whether your pump has stopped working or you want to check that your system is ready for the next storm, we can help you understand what needs attention. Call us at (734) 243-8830 to discuss your sump pump and request a quote.

A sump pump problem can go unnoticed until water starts collecting on the basement floor. A pump that will not start, runs constantly, or struggles to discharge water may leave your home exposed when rain is heavy or groundwater rises. Moisture can damage flooring, drywall, stored belongings, and other finished surfaces. If damp conditions persist, mold may develop. Having a struggling pump checked before the next major storm can help you catch a fault before it turns into a basement cleanup.

You shouldn’t have to wonder whether your sump pump will work when the rain starts. If your system is old, has a history of breakdowns, or struggles to keep up with incoming water, have it checked. Depending on what we find, the right next step may be a repair, a replacement pump, or a backup system. Advanced Plumbing of Monroe can help you understand the available options for your New Boston home. Call (734) 243-8830 to arrange service.

Residential Sump Pump Inspection, Repair, and Installation in New Boston, MI

A sump pump needs to do more than switch on. It must remove water effectively and discharge it through a working outlet. During service, the condition of the pump, float switch, sump pit, and discharge line can all matter. We assess the issue and explain whether a repair, a replacement, or a change to the existing setup is appropriate. The goal is to help your system move water as intended and reduce the risk of avoidable basement flooding.

I have not used Advanced Plumbing before but I can already tell you when I need a plumber, I'll be calling them. My senior neighbor told me this evening that she called you guys this morning for what she thought was a sump pump alarm that had been driving her crazy for hours. One of your service men, Eric I believe she said, showed up and spent a 1/2 looking for the source of the alarm. He found it. It was her Carbon Monoxide detector that was malfunctioning. He advised her that it was important that she replace it, in which, she did. The best part of this story is that they did not charge her a dime to come out. I was so grateful to hear this that I think it is noteworthy to bring attention to this act of kindness from this company and the kind of people you employ. It says a lot about you! Thank you!!!! From the neighbor of the grateful lady you helped this morning!

I have used Advanced for all of my plumbing needs, emergency or routine maintenance. They are able to get me on the schedule very quickly with competitive pricing. Eric is fantastic. He does excellent work, doesn’t do work that isn’t needed and talks you through everything. The other techs I’ve had are just as great. I refer everyone who needs work to them. Don’t hesitate to call them. Hands down, the best around.

Called to get a leak fixed in my upstairs bathroom. (Had an existing access hole in the ceiling) He came out to diagnose the problem, adjusted the water spout and silicone the spout, and put an access in the wall for another angle to see the problem. Said that should fix it. Still leaking called the office and she told me they will come out and diagnose the problem, and I would be charged again. They already came out and missed diagnosed the problem. Now they want to come out again and charge me again for another diagnosis that they didn't solve. I want to support their business but to keep charging to diagnose a problem that isn't correctly diagnose is just wrong. I'm glad to pay for a leak that is fixed. But to keep playing elimination until you find the leak and charging me is not the way to solve this. She didn't have any solutions to give me other than keep charging me.

We appreciate any and all feedback. We did look back at our notes regarding this job. The initial visit on October 30, 2024 was to assess and repair a leak on a 3" pvc sewer line between the first and second floor in the ceiling. We have noted down that there was already a hole cut and it is suspected that approximately 2' needed to be cut out and repaired. That leak was repaired on site by cutting out the bad section of 3” pvc at a coupling that wasn’t glued. On December 9, 2024 we were called back out for a potential follow-up. Our notes state that there was still a leak in the ceiling. Upon arrival, it was described to us that the leak was in a separate area, near the tub, resulting in a new service call, not a follow-up. There was already a hole cut in the drywall ceiling below. Investigative work began where we ran water at the tub/shower fixture. We did not see anything leaking. We did, however, notice that the spout wasn’t siliconed against the shower wall. We adjusted and siliconed the tub spout to the wall and explained that water could sometimes run down the wall behind the spout resulting in a leak. We also cut access on the backside of the tub/shower and found no leaks. We provided and installed an access panel and advised to keep an eye on the area and to call if anything further leaks. Today, March 18, 2025 (99 days after the service call) we received a call stating there was still a leak in the ceiling area. We explained that we would treat this as a new service call to further investigate and diagnose the unknown leak. We understand leaks can be frustrating because they can be hard to locate, especially when we cannot get it to leak while on site. We are more than willing and happy to come out to further diagnose the ongoing leak as a service. We do appreciate your business and feedback and look forward to working with you again in the future.

Had them out to do regular service my hot water on demand system for descaling. They were able to get me in within a day of calling them. The tech Eric explained a lot about the system. He identified a potential issue with the system and fixed it on the spot. The tech was very respectful and performed great work. The scheduler on the phone was friendly and kind. I would recommend them to friends and family for any future plumbing work.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much do residential sump pump services cost in New Boston, Michigan?
Every sump pump project is different, so the cost depends on the work your home needs. A repair, routine maintenance visit, new pump installation, and full system replacement each involve different requirements. The condition of the existing pump, the sump pit, discharge piping, electrical setup, and any backup equipment can affect the final price. Call Advanced Plumbing of Monroe at (734) 243-8830 to discuss your situation and get an accurate quote.

How do I know if my sump pump needs repair or replacement?
Watch for a pump that runs constantly, makes grinding or rattling noises, starts and stops repeatedly, or fails to remove water from the sump pit. Rust, visible damage, frequent cycling, and water collecting in the basement are other warning signs. A professional inspection can help determine whether a repair will solve the problem or whether replacing the pump makes more sense.

What residential sump pump services are available in New Boston, MI?
Advanced Plumbing of Monroe provides residential sump pump installation, repair, inspection, and maintenance. Service may include checking pump operation, the float switch, the sump pit, and the discharge line to identify problems that could prevent the system from removing water properly. Call (734) 243-8830 to discuss the work your home needs.

How long does sump pump installation or repair take?
The time depends on the job. A straightforward repair may take less time than installing a new pump, replacing damaged discharge piping, or fitting a backup system. Access to the sump pit, the condition of the existing equipment, and unexpected plumbing issues can affect the schedule. Advanced Plumbing can provide a clearer time estimate after reviewing your specific situation.

Should I install a battery backup sump pump?
A battery backup can help protect your basement if the primary pump loses power during a storm. It can be especially useful when heavy rain and power outages happen together. The right setup depends on how much water enters the sump pit, how long backup power may be needed, and the capacity of the equipment. Ask Advanced Plumbing whether a backup system is a good fit for your home.

What happens if I ignore a failing sump pump?
Water can collect in your basement and damage flooring, drywall, stored belongings, and other finished surfaces. Ongoing moisture can also contribute to mold growth and musty odors. If water reaches vulnerable areas around the foundation, you may face further cleanup and repair work. Addressing warning signs early can help reduce the chance of a major water problem.

What is included in a sump pump inspection or maintenance visit?
The work depends on the equipment and the concerns you report. An inspection may include checking whether the pump starts and stops correctly, examining the float switch, looking for discharge line blockages, and checking the sump pit for problems. The technician can explain any findings and recommend repairs or replacement when needed. Call to discuss the service appropriate for your system.

How much maintenance does a residential sump pump need?
A sump pump should be checked regularly, especially before periods of heavy rain. Keep the area around the sump pit clear, watch for unusual sounds or repeated cycling, and check for signs that water is not draining as expected. Follow the equipment manufacturer’s maintenance guidance, and arrange a professional inspection if the pump behaves differently or has not been checked in a while.

Can a sump pump still fail during heavy rain?
Yes. A pump can fail because of a mechanical problem, a stuck float switch, a blocked discharge line, or a loss of electrical power. The amount of incoming water can also exceed what a system can remove. Regular checks, suitable pump capacity, a clear discharge route, and a properly selected backup system can help reduce the risk, but no pump can guarantee that flooding will never occur.

What affects the price of sump pump installation?
The price depends on the type and capacity of pump, the condition and size of the sump pit, discharge piping, electrical requirements, site access, and whether backup equipment is needed. Replacing an existing unit may involve different work from installing a system in a home that does not already have one. Every project is unique. Call (734) 243-8830 for a quote based on your home’s needs.

What are my options if my sump pump keeps breaking down?
Depending on the cause, you may be able to repair the existing pump, replace the pump while keeping the current pit and discharge line, or install a new system if the existing setup is unsuitable. A battery backup may also be worth considering if power loss is a concern. An inspection can help you compare these options before deciding.

How do I choose a sump pump contractor in New Boston, Michigan?
Look for a plumbing contractor who can explain the problem, assess the existing equipment, describe the proposed work, and provide a clear quote before the job begins. Ask what the service includes, whether the discharge line and float switch will be checked, and what happens if additional problems are found. Choose someone who answers your questions directly and recommends work that fits your home’s needs.
